Grace Ingraham is an independent artist in the greater Kansas City area. She originally studied fine art and art history at Emporia State University in Kansas, and she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in art history from Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts in 2009. Although she eventually went back to school to become a physical therapist assistant, she continued to draw in her free time. In February of 2015, Grace Ingraham Fine Art Studio was formed.
I have always felt compelled to draw horses due simply to their natural beauty. I have ridden horses since the age of five and drawn them for even longer. Although most of my drawings are inspired by all things equestrian, I am also happy to accept commissions for dogs, cats, and occasionally a variety of other subject matter. I work exclusively in pencil because I love the amount of detail it affords and the bold contrast inherent in black and white images. I work from at least one reference photograph for every drawing, and every drawing is a journey and a challenge to both capture the essence of the original image and to breathe new life into it in a new medium.
