Wetzel sees the everyday world as a palette of color, subject and activity that is fascinating to absorb and inspires her to transform those images into a two-dimensional format. Watercolor, with it’s fluid and sometimes elusive qualities is her chosen media.
While common threads include architecture, floral, landscapes and the human form, she seeks to find the transcendent within the mundane. Her vision is that her work will continue to evolve and express the world around her.
Wetzel was born and raised in the St. Louis area and moved to Overland Park 29 years ago. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in graphic art from Meramec Community College, Kirkwood, MO. Anita has continued to study and grow as an artist by taking workshops with well-known artists, participates in Open Studios and local art exhibits. In addition, to being a member of Images Art Gallery, she holds membership in the Kansas City Artists Coalition, the KS Watercolor Society and the Missouri Watercolor Society.
Anita accepts commissions, especially those of individual homes. These paintings, which are quite detailed, reflect the personality of the home and make excellent gifts. Her work is in collections around the country.
